About this deal

Our vision, mission and values underpin everything that we do in supporting people affected by severe mental illness and other mental health difficulties. We support all our staff and volunteers to live our values everyday. Our Vision and Values Our vision is, "a world where mental health and wellbeing is everyone's business". The Appropriate Adult is required to assist with any communication issues between detained person and police In 2019 Oscar was granted a fellowship by the Churchill Foundation to study mental health providers in the USA and Australia who had adopted Zero Suicide approaches to patient care. Oscar established and chaired the Towards Zero Suicide Collaborative Board for Northern Ireland from 2018 - 2022. Complex PTSD describes personality changes you experience after ongoing trauma, such as abuse. You may:

To observe if the interview is being conducted fairly and with respect for the rights of the detained person Not everyone who experiences these things develops PTSD. The risk of getting PTSD depends on how the experience affects you. PTSD is more likely if the traumatic event: Mental Health & Money Advice has been developed by Mental Health UK. Mental Health UK is a UK-wide charity that represents its four member charities; MindWise in Northern Ireland, Rethink Mental Illness in England, Adferiad Recovery in Wales and Support in Mind in Scotland. My name is Emma-Rose Duffy and I joined the board in 2022. I am Solicitor currently working in the area of children’s rights and I also have experience in the areas of conveyancing and criminal law. My current work involves dealing with vulnerable children and their families who suffer with mental health issues, trauma and/or a disability.Oscar held the position of Director of Mental Health and Disability Services in the NHSCT from April 2007 until June 2020. Prior to this, he was appointed Director of Mental Health Services in the legacy Homefirst Community Trust in 2004, having previously worked in Learning Disability Services in the legacy North and West Belfast Community Trust. Staff will learn how to recognise common mental health issues and understand how to provide non-judgmental support. They will be equipped to help a person who may be developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis. A core part of our programme also works with teachers to build the foundational knowledge to do what they do best: securing the best outcomes for their students. Over an 8-week period, Bloom Associate Trainers work alongside teachers to support and train them in the course content and the application of our easy-to-use teaching resources.

As a student I participated in the Study USA programme 2012/13 where I studied Business, Criminal Justice and Forensic Science at Centenary College New Jersey. In my final year at QUB I also travelled to Los Angeles to intern at the Los Angeles Federal and State Courts. I spent several weeks observing in Edmund D Edelman Children’s Dependency Court which was designed and built to be a child sensitive courthouse. Gaining first-hand experience of such a unique set up further ignited my passion to help improve the court system for child witnesses in NI. Upon my return from LA, I became a volunteer for the NSPCC’s ‘Young Witness Service’. I also applied to complete a Masters in Children’s Rights. My dissertation, entitled ‘Teddy Bears in Court’ compared the NI and LA court systems and argued for more child friendly court rooms to be built in NI. This is something which I hope to be able to implement in NI in the future. While this course content is relevant for any coach or leader, we see many learners coming from roles in healthcare, social care and therapies. With the added emphasis on wellbeing and mental health in organisations, we now also see leaders and executive coaches also adding to their skillset in this space. There are no academic entry requirements for this course, but previous experience in coaching, mental health or wellbeing interventions will be helpful. Learners are expected to have a positive attitude for learning, collaborating with others and self development. A competent level of English will also be required to engage with the live classes, coaching sessions and written assessments. Assessment That's our mission and it drives everything we do. If you want to be part of that mission, then we want to hear from you.The Appropriate Adult has an important and positive role while supporting vulnerable people and juveniles in Custody, this includes ensuring that the detained person understands what is happening to him and why. You might use drugs or alcohol to help you forget problems, or to help you to sleep. But drugs and alcohol are likely to make your symptoms worse in the long-term. Make sure you get help as soon as you can to stop things getting worse. At MindWise, our Learning and Development strategy ensures that all our staff has the opportunity to develop.

I live with my wife Jillian at the Maze just outside Hillsborough. We have two grown-up children, and three beautiful granddaughters, who love to come to our house for sleepovers!

Supporting young people

This course is assessed in line with the competencies of the accrediting organisations (ICF and EMCC). Therefore, traditional percentage grading is replaced by an Achieved/Not Achieved assessment on the competencies. Your assessments include: If you experience a traumatic event, it is important to get support as soon as you can. Your doctor might not think you need treatment straight away. If you have mild symptoms and you see your doctor within 4 weeks of the trauma, they may ask you to wait a month to see how things go. This is called ‘watch and wait’. Delivered through scenario-based discussion and relatable topics, such as ‘social pressures’ and ‘exam stress’, Bloom will leave young people with a better understanding of mental health in themselves and others. They will also possess a suite of tools they can deploy in ways which are right for their own mental health both now and in the future. We are passionate about mental health and wellbeing and we are committed to challenging mental health stigma and discrimination. We pride ourselves on developing new and innovative ways to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
