About this deal

Jason will be doing two book signings this Saturday, March 5 – between 11am and 1pm at Kenilworth Books and from 2pm to 4pm at Waterstones in Coventry. After his release this time, Anthony became involved in international drug smuggling, illegally importing hash and amphetamine. Jason begins digging in earnest. He begins to piece together the story of The Old Man’s life. It’s a story that is riddled with a man who makes millions but saves nothing, prizes freedom but spends years inside, works in a violent world but who – seemingly – avoids violence. Spencer was absent, often in prison, for much of his upbringing but now, as his father recovers from the shooting, Jason begins to wonder. After just a year of serving the term, Anthony was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer – thought to have been caused in part by the bullet fragments in his chest – and he was released on compassionate grounds. I’ve been told by people who met him that you would never have guessed about his criminality – he was charming, charismatic, handsome, polite – he lived a fascinating life full of contradictions and I wanted to put it on record and share it.”

Among her roles as an actress, she appeared in "The Scream," a 1953 episode of the TV series Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Presents, and a BBC-TV production of Dinner at Eight as a maid: "One of those small parts an actress can do absolutely nothing with except look as pretty as possible, act as naive as possible and stay out of the way of the knives." Dundy was heard in different roles on Radio Luxembourg's Harry Lime dramas, directed by Orson Welles. [4] In 1955, Dundy and Tynan appeared together on camera, hosting the "Madrid Bullfight" episode of Around the World With Orson Welles, the documentary series Welles made for Associated-Rediffusion, a contractor for Britain's ITV commercial network. [3] An honors graduate from Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia, she studied acting at the Jarvis Theatre School in Washington [4] with future star actors Rod Steiger, Tony Curtis and others, and in the Dramatic Workshop was taught by Erwin Piscator. Success!

Ah, the Honourable Perdita. How is she? Still mad as ever?" asked a youngish man with grey hair, his mouth twisted into an affectionate toothless grimace.

So of course "The Old Man and Me' would be of interest, but beyond that, it is quite a remarkable novel on various levels. The thing that really caught my attention is that she really got into the language of the British and its difference from American English. Two, she has some knowledge (of course) on the British personality and how that works with the American personality. And three, this is a really smart novel about how cultures merge - especially in early 1960's London. The main character resembles a much sweeter Patricia Highsmith twisted character who is dealing with identity and revenge of sorts. She knows what she wants, but does not know why she wants it. And that is the main problem with "Honey Flood." She goes out to seduce, but she gets seduced and its a weird journey from naive to knowing. A tall emphatically sloshed young woman whose hair entirely hid the upper part of her face was lurching around clutching a large drawing-folder which kept jabbing everyone in the stomach. She lurched up to Bollie demanding to know when he was going to paint her. "You said you would. You know you did."The jazz folks in the last third are racist caricatures, they are given some personality but the names Jinkie and Jimbo are hard to swallow.

The book is very un-admiring of Brits and Britain. So much so that I felt a little lost at the beginning. I'm such an anglophile and this person didn't seem to like *anything* she was experiencing. At the same time I recognized the desperate loneliness of staying in a hotel as a foreigner with no roots, no resources in an unfamiliar city. The Introduction makes it plain that there was some sincere un-appreciation of post war London. Through the writing process it took Jason on his dad’s journey and helped him understand how he came to do what he did and the reader is taken on that same journey. The Crypt had been the place we'd decided to start at and it was here, at this very bar, that I overheard for the first time in England the magic Name. Jason begins digging in earnest. He begins to piece together the story of The Old Man’s life. "I want to take this all in." I pressed into the crowd that had collected around Bollie. After being released it was not long before Anthony was in serious trouble again and he was convicted of forging American dollars for which he was handed an 11-year sentence. So I went. I had nothing better to do, had I, except recount my money and repaint my finger-nails and die of frustration?
